Anders Berensson Architects was commissioned by the Stockholm center party to design and locate three public pools to be sunken into the Stockholm Sea. Stockholm is a city situated on islands with a diverse and long shoreline. Still there is very few place to swim in the city center due to boat traffic, current and pollution. By making pools that is sunken into the sea we can overcome these obstacles and give Stockholm its own public swimming places right next to new neighborhoods and public transportations.
The pools are located on three places where you can’t swim safe today. In southern and northern Stockholm the pools are located in the suburbs Hammarby Sjöstad and Norra Djurgårdsstaden which are both newly built suburbs right next to the sea where you can swim due to pollutions from previous industrial activities. The third pool is placed right in the middle of the city next to Gammla stan subway station which has a fantastic but forgotten shoreline. The pool will be just a minute walk away from the train platform of one of Stockholm’s most central subway stations and be a true meeting point for all people in Stockholm.
